Copper and brass were prominent elements in the Rankine power station. That's not surprising given the amount of copper used in the stators and rotors of a generator to create electricity. Brass is conductive but not nearly as much as copper.
During my visit to Rankine, one of the former station operators mentioned that a full time job was to polish the brass throughout the station on a regular basis. The handrails, railings, door knobs and frames. He made it sound like the interior was a gleaming spectacle of shiny soft metal. It must have been something to see...
