John S. Cook Bank and Overbury Building (Rhyolite Ghost Town) Apr 1, 2007

While not exactly in Death Valley, this was where the trip to Death Valley began. The ghost town of Rhyolite has a number of ruins remaining from its gold rush times in the early 1900s. Its appearance in the 2005 movie 'The Island' probably contributes significantly to its tourist draw these days — that and it's on the route to Death Valley. What you see is what you get — there's not a heck of a lot left.
