Coke Oven Opening Nov 1, 2005

Yeah, it's like a giant industrial toilet seat. And my friend Nosh has a great thought that they're escape pods — much more fun than the reality.

This is the top of the coke oven facility at Bethlehem Steel.

As for the blown out sky — I have a series of shots like this which are all fairly high-contrast black & whites. The choice to go that way was because the day these were shot was fairly dismal — highly overcast, rain, drizzle... By experimenting and going high-contrast, the background blew out and I was left with what I was interested in in the first place — the objects. Ultimately I'm fairly happy with the results. Some work better than others but that's the nature of experimentation.
