Portrait of a Partial Chair  (Sep 19, 2005)

Voted 3.1/5.0 (54 votes) — Rate it!  1 2 3 4 5 (5=best)

The chair theme continues... Every time I've visited this place I've passed by this guy due to a lack of light, but on the most recent visit I finally captured it.

For some reason I really like this one. It's simple -- very simple -- and repeated viewings don't really offer anything else. But, there's something about it that holds my interest. Then again -- based on the typical reactions to photos here -- what I like is usually *not* what most viewers like. So, I'll just shut up now. :)

I could have titled this, Where's My Seat, Dude?

I see eager eyes watching from your simple chair! Think of the stories left untold.

Oh man...worth the wait for this light and shadow combo - definitely not a comfy chair, though...

There's something very captivating about that stool.

The footprints make it seem like a lot of people used that bar stool, over time. "...sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name..."

i simply like the 'black to image' fade and the shade.

The footprints & shadowing lend this shot a haunted aspect.

keep it up kendall! this is fantastic! seriously though... totally bookworthy!! find a publisher (perhaps a fat guy who can appreciate the essence of chairs....??!)

First you started photographing urban decay, and now you've descended to stool-samples. Nice.

Theres something interesting about this picture, for the first time i looked at it, it didnt look like a phtograph, it looked like somone sketched this out. I really like that illusion from me though. Killer pic Kendall..

I almost wish the footprints weren't there. Almost.

See, I was also leaning towards the Unknown Comic, cause I just kept having a stong sense of something missing. And Bam along somes Shuh with his Stool sample take.....good oneliner Shuh!!!! After I read Shuh's comment I have laughed so hard I nearly fell off my stool.

Technically, this is a stool and not a chair. That said, I like the shot of a decaying stool in a clearly abandoned building.

Fantastic lighting. A great portrait of an abandoned everyday object. Beauty is everywhere.

Shuh is keeping me in stitches too... But yes, it is a compelling photo, I think partly due to it's simplicity.

you know this picture is the simplest yet the best out of the past three.

I agree with Turfdigger -- fabulous lighting capture. Still looks sturdy--I thought "They also serve who only stand and wait."

very cool.

who cares what others think about your chair photos. I enjoy looking at them. You seem to give chairs more life. with each photograph you take of a chair I like to think of a story to go along with it, its fun. Anyway, I enjoy looking at the different ideas you come up with you are very talented.

I think it looks uncomfortable.

Andy (Sep 27 2005, 11:44 pm)

The contrast between the shadow and the top of the stool is brilliant. The footprints and the shadow of the stool itself gives it a human quality.

Bill (Sep 29 2005, 2:19 pm)

I really like it actually. Just the starkness of it all.

Makes me wish I were a gallery owner. Or the owner of a photography magazine. Somedays it makes me wish I were you. I feel like I want to be the person putting this on the air and then announcing "supported by the national endowment of the arts" Not that I want you to get a big head or anything but I seriously got a respect thing going on here.
