Iron/Ore PlantThis gallery complements the Industrial Landscape gallery which was also shot during May 2005 in Sudbury, Ontario. This iron/ore plant -- part of the huge nickel mining infrastructure -- was shut down and abandoned approximately 20 years ago. The huge superstack was disconnected since and is being used by other facilities in the area. The building was quite large, dark and dense. There was virtually no vandalism or graffiti but the structure was definitely feeling the effects of the elements. Decay was present in many areas which required a good deal of caution -- especially when walking on the rusting metal floors. The lower levels received negligible natural light and were not of significant interest (due to a lack of light), but as we moved up through the various levels of the structure the equipment and large spaces began to reveal themselves. |
