Very nice contrast - those bits peeling paint are huge.

the red pipe is called a stand pipe for firefighters to hook up the truck at ground lever into the main hook up and then firefighters can hook thier hose lines in the building and be fed water to direct points in the building eliminating lots of hoses from ground up.
