This sure isn't Swiss-made. I can't imagine what all that extra hardware is behind the clock, but if it's necessary then this clock must have been made sometime in the middle ages...

looks like early electro mechanical automation, judging by the selenoids at the bottom and switch gear on the left. expect it turned lights on and off maybe controlled doors even based on where you set the switches

My guess? It was the master clock that controlled the bells.
