No Budget Product Shot  (Feb 6, 2006)

So -- big surprise I know -- yesterday's shot was a baby stroller. That I'm posting photos of baby paraphernalia at this early stage means one of two things: 1) the apocalypse is near or, 2) I actually like the design of this. Take your pick, you're probably correct with either choice.

Anyways.. this was my feeble attempt at trying to key out the background for that typical 'product shot' photography. I knew in advance that I just didn't have lights bright enough to fill the background but for some reason I went ahead anyways and used the 2,000,000 candle flashlight to get the background as bright as possible without affecting the foreground. A little Photoshop masking was required but it's semi-passable and here's a word of advice - bed sheets taped to the wall aren't the ideal solution but hey, for really, really low-budget work they do the trick.

Exhibition news: Diane Purdie and I have 20 odd pieces on display (photographs & paintings/collage) at the Newmarket Theatre for the next month and a half. I think we're tentatively naming the show 'Memories from the Day Shift' -- yeah, it's all industrial-related goodness. If you're not attending a performance at the theatre, you can stop by between 1-5:30pm Mon-Fri, and Noon-4pm on Saturdays. If you're in the area, have a look! I've mostly got Bethlehem Steel photos on display as well as some older shots.

And, here's a map to the theatre. And of course, the In Transit exhibition at the Toronto Free Gallery is still up and running (a little closer to home for you Toronto folk).

i like ghetto studio set-ups. you have to get extra inventive to make up for the lack of means. it's always fun, and a learning experience. with a second source on the right to key out your shadows on the ground just a little bit, this shot could totally look professional enough. oh, and that thing looks like some sort of space mission equipment to me. i wish there were strollers this cool when i was a baby. not that it would have mattered anyway.

The stuff they have for kids these days are soooo much fun!!! When my grandchildren started popping up I decorated my spare bedroom walls white accented w/ Peter rabbit & friends everything.

This is a crazy shot. What an interesting device, btw, where the hell does the baby go?

this must be the knock off/more reasonable version of this... http://www.babystyle.com/content/gear/bugabooMain.asp Who in their right mind would pay that much for a stroller? I have seen people on the bus with them, and I got to wonder...your taking the bus and you have swanky gear like that..!?! Time to re-assess your priorities...
