Coal Delivery  (Jan 2, 2006)

A new year, a new building. I went with Andrew to photograph a recently closed building yesterday and it was a great way to start 2006. You'll be seeing more photos from this place in the days to come, guaranteed.

I have two versions of this shot -- one with the wires hanging down on the left and one without. For some reason I thought the photo was better *with* them so yeah, it was a conscious decision to have those there.

Site Updates: I've added two new things.

One: the search engine is back and you'll find it on any of the archives pages. You can search for text that appears with any photo, including the comments attached to that photo.

Two: keyword groups. Meaning, I've created a few groups of photos with common elements, e.g., chair photos, macros, black & whites, sunsets, etc. You can find them by going to the archives by keyword page.

If you notice anything wonky, I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise, enjoy!

Update July 30 2006: I've added a gallery of photos from this location. The gallery is available here: Lakeview Generating Station gallery.

Awesome shot, would love to see a bigger version.

I actually love the long wire, but I could do without the short one. The fog is wonderful, and I like the perspective. Happy New Year!

I thought there would be more snow on the ground for this time of year up there. Cool shot.

A place I remember well. I worked in the main plant for about a year and in the coal yard in the winter of 1984-85 before I left the company. That is a transfer building where coal that was unloaded from the receiving docks and sent to two huge stocking out booms which built the coal pile.

Sweet work on this site! Nice underneath shot, too.

Very nice and I look forward to seeing more.

so. jealous.

I like this one! It seems like the coal has to travel quite a distance to get to the (processing?) place. Do you have an over-view of the whole operation? I like the fog too!

This, i think, needs to try being black and white. The perspective is great. Why is it you start a "New" year with a tour of a building that has reached the end of its use? Your beginning sounds like an end. what a punk.

I like the "arms" extending from the building (maybe you should have an "octopus-like" keyword archive! I seem to remember others). I would like it to be more contrast-y or the snow more white. Maybe the B&W suggestion would solve this. Nice composition.

I agree with Dusty...

I love this shot! Mostly b/c of the fog and how the towers go into it! I could have done without the wrires, but its a really nice shot! kaela

I lived 5 minutes north of this place for years and years. I always wanted to go inside. Is there a way to get in there legally?

Greatd composition.

i love the fog and the angle! it's almost itimidating with the way the angle is--making it seem like it's looming over you.

Nice, the fog works very effectively on the chimneys. Not sure about the cable top left, the one all the way down works but the other a little distracting.
